The University is committed to exploring frontier TCM technology, serving the need of TCM modernization in Shanghai and China, cultivating top level TCM talents, developing emerging interdisciplinary programs, encouraging innovation, accelerating institutional reform on research, and creating a robust incentive and competition system. Following the national TCM strategy, the university leverages its strength in selected programs, expert panels, and clinical research bases to connect with the industry, promote the integration of education, research and industry, and create mechanism for scientific innovation, research outcome development, and technology transfer, so as to expand the influence of TCM health service and boost sustainable development of the university.


In recent years, the university has undertaken an increasing number of national key research projects. It is also the top winner of national science foundation among TCM universities nation-wide.


SHUTCM as the first participant to win National Science and Technology Advancement Awards

 

 “Research on the Biological Translation of Digitalis and Cardic Glycosides” by Hu Zhibi’s team won the second prize of National Science and Technology Advancement Award in 1996

 

 “TCM Internal Medicine” by Zhang Boyu’s team won the 3rd prize of National Science and Technology Advancement Award in 1997

 

 “The Application and Related Basic Research on Treating Liver Fibrosis with Fuzhenghuayu Method” by Liu Ping’s team won the second prize of National Science and Technology Advancement Award in 2003


 “Research on Key Genetic Engineering Technology of the Metabolic Regulation of Active Astragalus” by Hu Zhibi’s team won the second prize of National Science and Technology Advancement Award in 2007

 

 “Innovation and Application of Comprehensive Evaluation Technology on Quality Control of Chinese Herbs” by Wang Zhentao’s team won the second prize of National Science and Technology Advancement Award in 2010

 

 “Basic Research and Clinical Application of Yiqihuayu Treatment on Degenerative Disc Disease.” by Wang Yongjun’s team won the second prize of National Science and Technology Advancement Award in 2011

 

 “Technology and Clinical Application of Moxibustion on Intestinal Disorders.” by Wu Huangan’s team won the second prize of National Science and Technology Advancement Award in 2013

 

 “Efficacy Mechanism and Application of Bushenyijing Method on Primary Osteoporosis” by Wang Yongjun’s team won the second prize of National Science and Technology Advancement Award in 2015
