The Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) recently held an online closing ceremony for the 2021 Shanghai Summer School TCM program.

The four-week program, which ran from June 7 to July 2, attracted more than 20 students from countries such as the United States, India and Italy.

The annual program is hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and organized by the university to introduce foreigners to TCM and Chinese culture. It was held online this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program included TCM courses related to basic theories, health care, acupuncture, tuina, Chinese calligraphy, paper cutting, tea and local festivals.

During the program, students attended every live streaming lesson despite time differences. They also actively interacted with teachers as well as discussed and shared learning materials via WeChat groups and email.

At the closing ceremony, students gave a presentation of what they have learned from the program. An Australian student showed off his acupuncture and tuina skills while a Canadian student talked about TCM diet practices.

Students from medical schools and institutions said the program has helped further their learning and work. They added that they are looking forward to experiencing the charm of TCM at the university as well as Chinese culture and food when they have the chance to visit China.
