We have more than 20 national-level scientific research projects and achieved leading domestic research results in major frontier fields such as the research, development and application of intelligent rehabilitation equipment for TCM, quantitative analysis of acupuncture manipulation parameters, and research on standardization of TCM.Among them, there are 3 projects of the National Key R&D Plan, with a total funding of 35,780,000 RMB; 4 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, including 1 general project and 3 youth science projects, with a total funding of 1,530,000 RMB; 3 key projects of the National Science and Technology Support Plan, with a total funding of 133,500,000 RMB; 1 “1226” Engineering Technology Special Project with a total funding of 900,000 RMB; 1 item of the 63rd batch of China Postdoctoral Science Foundation General Program (first-class funding) with a total funding of 80,000 RMB.

The number of high-level papers published by teachers and students at the Institute of TCM Engineering has been increasing year by year. A total of 46 papers in SCI, SSCI and Chinese core journals have been published. The highest impact factor of a single paper is 12.831 (Biotechnology advances). The main research directions and contents include quantitative analysis of acupuncture manipulations parameters, clinical efficacy verification and mechanism research of TCM acupuncture, research and development and standardization of TCM diagnosis and treatment equipment, quantitative research of electroacupuncture parameters, etc.Among them, The Biophysical Properties of Moxibustion (Chinese Journal of Acupuncture and Moxibustion. 2009, 29 (11): 897-899) won the FRONTRUNNER 5000 (F5000) Certificate of Top Articles in Outstanding S&T Journals of China. The article was cited by domestic and foreign journals nearly 687 times (data as of July 2020). The institute has published more than 20 national authorized patents and more than 10 software copyrights. We have successively formulated the ISO international standard Infrared Moxibustion-like Instrument (ISO 20493), the group standard of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies Auricular Point Detector Standard and the National Standards Committee Acupuncture Technical Operation Specification Part 11: Electroacupuncture (GB/T 21709.11-2009) and other domestic and foreign standards. We are currently continuing to promote various standardization works. At the same time, we also published development reports, internal references, and industry guides such as Biomedical Engineering Discipline Development Report (2014-2015), Biomedical Engineering Discipline Development Roadmap, and Frontier of Medical Device Technology, etc.

We have successively edited Biomechanics (the textbook of the 12th Five-Year Plan of the Ministry of Health), Basic Medical Physics (the textbook of the 12th Five-Year Plan of the National TCM Industry Higher Education), and Acupuncture and Moxibustion Equipment (the innovative textbook of the 13th Five-Year Plan of the National TCM Industry Higher Education) and other textbooks, and published 2 monographs, Bian stone Techniques and Evidence-Based Acupuncture.

Professor Yang Huayuan, director of the Institute of TCM Engineering, is currently the chairman of the TCM Engineering Branch of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering; chairman of the Acupuncture Equipment Professional Committee of the Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion Society; deputy chairman of the Chinese Medicine Medical Equipment Professional Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine; vice chairman of the Professional Committee for the Application and Evaluation of Appropriate Techniques in TCM of World Federation of Chinese Medicine; vice chairman of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Decoction Machine Professional Committee; vice chairman of Shanghai Traditional Medical Engineering Association; member of Shanghai Professional Standardization Technical Committee; editorial board member of Chinese Journal of Acupuncture and Moxibustion and Shanghai Journal of Acupuncture and Moxibustion etc. Associate Professor Liu Tangyi is the deputy chairman of the TCM Engineering Branch of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering, and he is also the deputy chairman of the Acupuncture Equipment Professional Committee of the Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion Society. Professor Gao Ming is the vice chairman of the Acupuncture Equipment Professional Committee of the Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion Society and the standing director of the Chinese Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Equipment Professional Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies. At the same time, 4 members of our institute have become registered experts in different working groups of the International Organization for Standardization/Technical Committee of TCM (ISO/TC 249). In addition, many young teachers in the team also serve as standing committee members and youth committee members in many societies.
