The Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) introduced an annual introductory acupuncture class for foreigners on Aug 31.

The class, taught in English, will last for three months and include 420 class hours involving the basic theories of TCM, TCM diagnostics, acupuncture manipulation and moxibustion, meridian and acupoints, acupuncture therapeutics, and clinical practice.

This year, the class has been delayed for several months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, foreign students in Shanghai can now take the class on campus.

Mosig Shihadeh Klara, a German western-style doctor enrolled in the class, said she wanted to read more TCM research papers to learn about TCM and acupuncture.

The annual class has been held since the 1970s and has been continually modified to stay up to date with modern practices. It now devotes more class hours for clinical practice.
