Founded in July 2003, the Shanghai Center for TCM Intellectual Property Studies specifically works on principle and practice of TCM intellectual property. In May 2009, the Center was appointed as the key research room for legal protection of traditional medicine by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Our academic achievements
lIn addition to studying legal principles on protection of traditional medical knowledge, we’ve also been involved in the legislation of traditional Chinese medicine to facilitate institutional protection of TCM knowledge.
lWe’ve conducted empirical research on application and strategies of current intellectual property rules in traditional medicine.
lWe’ve also compiled training materials and textbooks and cooperated with all departments concerned to train personnel with a TCM educational background to be engaged in protection of traditional medical knowledge.
